Behind Lizzborotory

Okay, so this is kind of a long story, but I think it helps tie the ideas together and make it all  make sense. 

First off, my Maiden name is Elizabeth Bartoy. Yes, BAR-TOY, it sounds exactly like its spelled. & yeah, I've lived with it, I know its weird, but that's a whole other set of stories. I've gone by Lizzy since around 1st or 2nd grade, because damn, Elizabeth is a lot of letters (9) to have to write on every single thing you do in school. But of course, I spelled it with a Y not knowing in 4 years Lizzie McGuire would become so popular I'd wish I never stopped using Elizabeth because at least everyone could spell that right. 

Fast forward to Instagram being the new thing (god things like this make me feel old) and all I could come up with for a name was lizzybartoy. It was like that for a few years and I never thought anything of it. During those years, Matthew and I started dating, we had moved out of our apartment and into a duplex that happened to be right down the street from a couple friends! What do you do when your in your 20s and can walk home on a Saturday night? We'll say there were things consumed and fun conversations had.

During one of those conversations my name came up, I do not remember the specifics, just that Bartoy was the joke. But then it clicked with my friend Alicia, "Your Instagram name is just your name.." 

I was confused. "Yeah, that is true."

O_O "I always thought it was 'lizzborotory' like, Lizzy's laboratory."

Obviously as millennials we all immediately thought back to 'Dexter's Lab', laughed at the similarities between DeDe and myself, and right then my ig name became 'Lizzborotory', because it was amazing.

Flash forward to starting my business, and trying to come up with a name. I wanted something that went with the craft and direction I was going at the time & "LucidWeaving Co" was born. I was happy with it for years. In 2025 a hand injury made it difficult to crochet and embroider and I lost my direction. I felt like I needed a rebrand or refocus.

When talking to Matthew he said "Why don't you just use 'Lizzborotory'. Its like your brain is its own laboratory anyways, popping random shit out all the time."

All I could do was stare at him. Why had he not said this before when I was trying to come up with 'LucidWeaving Co'? He Shrugged.  But of course, he was right. We had also gotten married by this point, so I wanted to change my personal ig name anyway.

I drew up my logo, made all the legal changes and voila 'Lizzborotory LLC' was born. I think it fits the general idea of me as a whole. I have raging ADHD and I can't box myself into one thing. I WILL get bored and will have to move on. I also really enjoy blending mediums together to come up with something you wouldn't necessarily expect, and I think that's part of myself and my art I wasn't exactly showcasing by sticking to embroidery. Even with the glass.
